Summary/Abstract: An art of improvisation in music usually constitutes an interesting creative discipline. As a process definitely unrecognised, it combines an intellectual and irrational sphere. Improvisation activity can be observed most often in the case of the biggest personages inscribed into the history of music for ever. It proves an incredibly high level of topic difficulty remaining a specific form of composition. The analysis of the processes taking place during an act of improvisation provides interesting conclusions covering both theoretical, technical, as well as performing and interpretative issues. Improvisation should be understood as a type of composition in which the time of its creation is shortened to the minimum. An improvisator is a composer and performer of the work simultaneously. It means that he/she is totally responsible for the final version of the composition. Improvisation requires from the musician an indispensable technical support. Even the greatest composing personages will not be successful at improvisation if they do not have a good instrumental technique. An art of improvisation should be perceived as the most refined and advanced reflection of an artistic individualism of the author. It constitutes one of the most interesting musical activities nowadays.
