Documents from the reign of Antonie Voda of Popești in the collections of the Bucharest municipality museum : an inventory

Summary/Abstract: In the collections of the Bucharest Municipality Museum there are forty seven documents issued by the Wallachian chancery during the reign of Antonie Vodǎ of Popeşti (from the 8/19th of April 1669 to the 13/23rd of January 1672). This article comprises the first complete inventory of this diplomatic collection and aims to shed more light on the Wallachian society during that period. Most of these documents are related to land selling, referring to important estates such as those of Boteni, Bâtcoveni, Bǎleni, Stoieneşti, Homeşti, Cǎlineşti, Rǎstoaca, Copǎceni or Vulpeni. Eleven documents had been issued by the ruling lord him- self, and some of them are still bearing his red wax seal. The members of the lord’s council are mentioned as witnesses in only six of these documents.
