Summary/Abstract: The present review article is the analysis of two historical books: Marcin Zaremba’s „Wielka trwoga. Polska 1944–1947: ludowa reakcja na kryzys” and Ewelina Szpak’s „Mentalność ludności wiejskiej w PRL. Studium zmian”. These works are also relerant to the field of sociology, deliberately using secondary sources such as edited archival personal interviews, diaries and also other sociological works. Authors try to demonstrate the paradox of coexistence of historical sociology and social history and to describe their results. In the works analyzed here sociology has been used mainly as a source of labels describing some particular characteristics of social processes. Unfortunately, the authors of the analyzed works do not use sociology as a source of analytical and theoretical frames to describe and explain social processes. Neither do they use it as a starting point for construction of more general considerations about social life under rapid changes.
