Summary/Abstract: Boethius’ work De consolatione philosophiae was brought to Britain by the Romans. Translated into English by the king of Wessex, Alfred the Great (841—899 AD), this poem might have influenced some native poems, especially two Christian elegies — The Wanderer and The Seafarer. In those poems can be seen the philosophical memento left by the Roman author.
