Summary/Abstract: The Augustinian idea of Christian education is based on the theory of seven liberal arts. These arts are divided into trivium and quadrivium. Each of these parts, along with their subdivisions, constitutes the gradual stages for the perfecting of human soul. Proceeding from the lower to the higher level a person not only better understands the world, people and himself but also he comes closer to God. The didactic conceptions of Augustine are motivated by natural and supernatural motives. The firsts of them he draws from the natural reason, the seconds – from the Revelation and the Church authority. Elaborating the educational system of seven liberal arts Augustine established the Christian methodology of education, which remains significant and worth of attention in our times.
