Summary/Abstract: Mythologization as a tool of engineering international policy towards Russia has played and still plays a pivotal role in modelling the public opinion. Mythologization is not entirely a centrally controlled tool. The emergence of myths about Russia and Russians has always followed a bottom-up pattern and its results have been invariably transferred into the political dimension. The sources of these processes date back to the medieval times and the onset of the modern era.
