Summary/Abstract: The article discusses the educational importance of periodicals edited and published by P. Dovydaitis at the beginning of the 20th century and their impact on the education of adults and the development of their consciousness. His gnoseological concept of human knowledge rests on the necessity to integrate scientific and religious cognition. It is contrasted with an analysis of contemporary adult education and the development of consciousness, presented as transformative learning, in which a transformation of the perspective takes place. It can be achieved through the development of the critical consciousness. It is seen as the most important means and goal of contemporary adult education, helping adult learners to transform their way of thinking about themselves and their world.
