Summary/Abstract: In all of my classes, including the ones I teach at the “Goldstein Goren” Centre, I encourage students to have direct contact with texts. Whenever possible, they read a text in its original language. When this is not possible, a translation, more literal than periphrastic, may be used. If this is true for written material in general, it is especially important for the Bible. But there are many obstacles for modern readers in their quest for authentic interaction with the biblical text.
