Summary/Abstract: This article seeks to understand the importance of memory in Cazinska Krajina, based on the tragic conflict that took place between 1993 and 1995, in the relations of two ethnically homogenous, but politically and ideologically divergent groups – “mainstream” Bosniaks, who remained loyal to the Sarajevo government and Alija Izetbegovic, and a smaller group of Bosniaks loyal to the Velika Kladuša government (i.e. that of the Autonomous Province of Western Bosnia) and its rebel leader Fikret Abdić. This is a largely understudied aspect of the 1992-95 Bosnian war, and one which resulted in close to twice the number of deaths of local Bosniak fighters than occurred in Serb-Muslim armed conflicts in the area.
