Summary/Abstract: The purpose of this paper is identifying common elements of private financing within the current health care system in both B&H entities – FB&H and RS, as well as indicating the potential approaches towards the privatization of public health institutions. Theoretical part sets out to describe basic models of health system financing in carefully chosen countries in Europe and in the US, with the focus on legislative framework and de lege ferenda solutions. The analytical part scrutinizes the issues revolving around the financing of the current health care system in FB&H and RS, and outlines the potential avenues in the upcoming privatization reform process. This research has thrown up many questions in need of further investigation. Considerably more work will need to be done to determine the best possible model to be used in the B&H health care privatization process.
