Summary/Abstract: The Unit for Neurological critical care and sleep medicine at the Neurology department of University hospital „Tzaritza Ioanna – ISUL“, Sofia: Analysis of the structure and development after 2001 / The Neurological Critical Care Unit (NCCU) is a specific structure for critical care for the neurological patients. This structure in Bulgaria is upon regulation of the Standards for Neurology and Standards for Anesthesiology and Intensive Care. We compare these Standards and the structure of NCCU in Heidelberg to disclose the most important features of the NCCS. We follow the development of the NCCU in the Neurology Department (ND) in the University Hospital “Tzaritza Ioanna-ISUL”, Sofia from the year 2001. We describe a few stages – first till 2009 – gradual change in the personnel with some loss in the other than neurology specialties in the team, but with improvements in other areas. The second stage was characterized with a more dramatic change of the personnel and with some improvements mostly in the area of the anesthesiology and intensive care. Based on these stages we speculate about some future changes in the NCCU in the ND in the University Hospital “Tzaritza Ioanna-ISUL”, Sofia.
