Archaisms as Manifestations of Styling in Potop by Henryk Sienkiewicz

Summary/Abstract: The article describes types of archaisms applied in Potop to achieve styling effects, i.e. manifestations of archaic styling (styling archaisms). Only real archaisms have been considered here, which are typical of the 17th century language, as this is the époque depicted in the novel. The paper only indicates the most crucial research issues and presents the most characteristic manifestations of textual archaic styling, namely archaisms of word formation, lexical-phrasal and syntactic ones. Inflectional archaisms are less important in the novel and phonetic ones have minimal value.
