Summary/Abstract: The author of the article discusses Polish dialect dictionaries (without dictionaries of Kashubian or national minorities’ dialect and dictionaries of Polish dialects outside the country). The paper presents a shortened history of Polish dialectal lexicography and shows its achievements, especially regarding scientific dialectal dictionaries. On the basis of 12 criteria, the following dictionaries were defined: 1) old – contemporary; 2) traditional (paper): printed – handwritten – electronic; 3) big – middle – small; 4) general-dialectal – dialectal – regional – local; 5) synchronic – synchronic and diachronic; 6) designed to narrow public – wide public; 7) scientific – popular scientific; 8) professional – amateur – with the participation of the local environment; 9) complete – different; 10) generally dialectal – specialist/monothematic; 11) linguistic – linguistic and ethnographic; 12) alphabetic – notional.
