Summary/Abstract: The Council of Ministers of the European Union is the central institution in a complicated decision making process within the EU. The decision making process within the EU has always been reflecting a stage of integration of the member states. Through the integration process unanimous decision-making has been gradually replaced with majority decision-making. In the same time, according to the Lisbon Treaty, demanded qualified majority for taking most of the decisions became rather close to the simple majority. This paper will try to highlight that the decision making process in the Council can become more efficient only as a consequence of recognition of common interests and values on the part of member states.
