Summary/Abstract: Legality of use of nuclear weapons is one of the most challenging contemporary issues of international law. This paper is dealing with only one of the aspects of that issue – the one that is part of international humanitarian law and which protects natural environment during armed conflicts. The conclusion is that although there are probably no norms of international humanitarian law which would prohibit every possible use of nuclear weapons in armed conflicts and which would secure the best protection of natural environment, there are still important norms which would considerably limit that use.
