Summary/Abstract: Signing Readmission agreements relating to the Serbian nationals with illegal residence in the EU, has intensified the process of returning people who previously had a temporary protection there. Readmission has been done through voluntary return or deportation, along with the application of measures violating basic human rights in some cases. There are no precise data in Serbia on the number of its nationals who left the country. There are also no data about the number of returnees. In some European countries, migrants from Serbia present the majority of asylum seekers, even though their number has been gradually decreasing. The greatest number of returnees are Roma, who have been facing serious existential troubles upon their return. The majority of returnees does not have any documents; they face many problems regarding getting a job; their access to health and social care is extremely difficult and they live in „wild“ settlements. The first part of the article presents numbers and structure of forced migrants in the European countries, with a special regard to some of the countries in which the asylum seekers from Serbia form majority. The policy of returning, creation of a single migration policy in the EU and establishing the standards for returnees based on readmission agreements, present the second part of the article. The social and economic position of returnees and problems of reintegration are a central part of the article, with some examples from the practice. Lack of clearly defined aims of migration policy, political instability, economic problems, massive poverty and unemployment, make the whole process of readmission and reintegration very difficult. The Strategy for Reintegration of Returnees prescribes many measures with a view to solving problems of people returning with readmission agreements to Serbia.
