Summary/Abstract: Issues of how to conclude a contract for suppling energy or fuel gas is regulated by the Energy Act, the Civil Code and the new law of consumer rights, which will come into force in January 2015. The legislator assumes that an individual who do not run any economic activity is the weaker party and deserves special protection. It has become common to communicate by means of direct communication at a distance, and to conclude contracts away from business seats on the mass service market, including the energy market. The process of standardization and mass use of that kinds of distance contracts should be seen as a positive phenomenon. However, it is a necessary condition to comply by energy companies with all specific obligations imposed both by the provisions of the Civil Code, Act of Energy Law and regulations and related to the process of concluding contracts with consumers.
