Summary/Abstract: In western societies the axionormative sphere undergoes quite quick transformations, enrolling in the paradigm of the Inglehart’s theory bringing back to the passage from materialistic to postmaterialistic values, from traditional to liberal values. The processes of changes in systems of the values depends on many factors, especially on the process of primary socialization in the family. The investigations which was undertaken over axionormative choices by the youth studying at universities in Nitra and in Katowice showed from the one side ‒ the degree of the similarity among parents’ and children’ generations in the range of the hierarchy of the values (e.g. values of education and life’s stability), and ‒ from the second side ‒ the degree the intergenerational diversification of the axionormative choices (e.g. favorite pastimes, professional interests). The respondents owes many values to not only parents, but also the grandparents (e.g. the moral values and the features of the character, historical knowledge, practical skills, and first of all the feeling of the being dear). The Slovak youth is characterized by the higher level of family cohesion than the Polish youth (particularly in the range of the level of the confidence and of the giving the help to members of their family). The results of our investigations show that traditional and materialistic values have more important meaning than liberal and postmaterialistic ones to the Polish and Slovak youth.
