Tritia – a new form and institution of European integration

Summary/Abstract: The article discusses the establishment and functioning of the first, new entity (institution) for the European integration, involving Polish local authorities, in the form of the European Group for Territorial Cooperation (EGTC). EGTC “Tritia” was founded in the Polish- Czech-Slovak border areas in mid 2012. The author presents formal and legal conditions for its establishment and the most important areas of activity, as well as the first experiences in cross-border cooperation. The final part of the article offers recommendations for the future in the context of cross-border cooperation in the European Union and searching for the new forms of extending the European integration.
