Summary/Abstract: The article focuses on the translation of religious lexis from Polish into Russian. The exemplificative material comes from the texts of Catholic provenance. Religious vocabulary, especially its connotational value, is one of the essential means of cultural transmission. When translating religious lexis, it is necessary to go deeper into cultural issues, treating them as part of comprehensive knowledge, but at the same time as very concrete and tangible instances of translational problems, which require the use of appropriate procedures, such as adaptation and exotisation. Translations contain incomplete semantically shifted equivalents or functional equivalents, i.e. phrases used in functionally analogous situations in the Orthodox faith, as well as exotisms.
