Summary/Abstract: The main purpose of this article is to present the Association of Southeast Asian Nations as a dynamically developing integration grouping. The turning point in its history was the Asian financial crisis 1997–1998, after which there was a significant change in the approach to regional cooperation (new regionalism). It is based on a system of bilateral and multilateral trade agreements. It also creates a strategy, and then sets targets using well-fitted procedures. The most important goal now is to accomplish the creation of ASEAN Community (until 2015). The project of the ASEAN Community is based on three pillars: economic cooperation, political and security issues and socio-cultural cooperation. Taking into consideration the degree of the plan realization it may be assumed that this initiative will be successful. Thus, the leaders of the Member States have already begun discussion on the direction of cooperation after 2015. The real dimension of this discussion is the Cooperation Plan for 2015–2022 assuming the implementation of the vision of “ASEAN Community in a Global Community of Nations”.
