Summary/Abstract: Totalitarianism is not one of many possible social contracts, but a perfidious and deceitful falsification thereof. As an ideology, totalitarianism is capable of falsifying and replacing the meaning of everything it encounters. Once introduced as a political system in a given country, and thus incorporated into the life of its society, totalitarianism fabricates countless forms of falsehood. A particularly perfidious falsification of reality in totalitarian systems concerns the human face. In this semiotic analysis Hendrykowski explores the deep structure of iconic transfers in totalitarian systems – transfers that present the human face as a constituent of the collective imagination.
