Summary/Abstract: In her novel Spa Decameron, Fay Weldon (de)constructs representations of gender roles and identities using (self)irony and the process of carnivalization, emphasizing idea of unstable identity boundaries. This paper will also discuss the wider issue of overlapping boundaries, which is questioned at different structural levels through irony and carnivalization: genre, characterization, language and style.
