Summary/Abstract: The following paper discusses an anthology of short stories, entitled Tovarăşe de drum. Experienţa feminină în communism. The paper will highlight the two major themes present in all these stories: womanhood and deprivation. It will discuss the Communist regime’s duplicitous stance on gender – proclaiming equality between the sexes, yet, shoehorning women’s potential into the roles of mother and worker.
