Summary/Abstract: The following text is offered for debate between literary scholars and linguists on the one hand and between media historians and theoreticians on the other. It discusses the level of the contemporary and immediately foreseeable production and reception of textures from the aspect of principal challenges to the hermeneutic method of interpretation as well as to its pragmatic framework. These reflections center on the doubt, whether it is meaningful any longer to proceed from the notion of a text as a closed entity in the communicative process. The concept of text here is a broad one. Focusing on audiovisual products in particular, 'text' denotes the aesthetic objectifications of modern and post-modern cultural production.
