The Theory Of Act And Potency As A Verifying Criterion Of The Correctness Of Metaphysical Cognition

Summary/Abstract: The article concentrates on a methodological function of the theory of act and potency in the aspect of the verification of cognitive process. As a ground of verification there are taken criteria which come from the analysis of being and cognition in the light of the above mentioned theory, and which include: the comprehension of cognition as actualizing process, the recognition of object as an actualizing factor in cognitive proc-ess, and the analogy of cognition. It is demonstrated that, by means of the applied crite-ria, it is possible to verify the adequacy of the method of cognizing the properties of being. First of all, it is important in the case of transcendental properties, which condi-tion whole metaphysical cognition. As such a method Manser recognized “imperfect abstraction,” that was used to formulate a conception of apprehending a being as “something where existence inheres in.” Separated properties are the actualization of the first and indistinct comprehension of being. The analogous character of this process confirms that all sought transcendental notions find their roots in properties of a thing.
