Summary/Abstract: Characteristics of selected aspects of functioning of Public Higher Vocational School in Skierniewice (Państwowa Wyższa Szkoła Zawodowa; PWSZ) contained in the article aims at outlining the role played by the school in the process of overcoming social exclusion of the youth of the Skierniewice region (residing in small towns or rural areas). Public Higher Vocational School in Skierniewice has been in operation since October 1, 2005. It was established in the milieu of a small town surrounded by rural areas in order to strengthen the educational potential of the town and offer to the less well-off youth, who cannot afford studying in large conurbations, a possibility to attain higher education in a public institution in their place of residence or nearby. In 2005/2006, during the first year of operation of the school, 270 full-time students and 87 extramural students commenced their education. Currently 1272 students attend the school: 700 full-time students and 572 extramural students. So far, 1228 graduates in total have received a university degree.
