Cost analysis of Polish public libraries with the DEA method and a comparison with results obtained by using the stochastic frontier cost function

Summary/Abstract: The aim of the paper is an empirical analysis of cost efficiency of public librar-ies by means of the DEA (Data Envelopment Analysis) approach. We collate our results with the ones obtained by [Osiewalska, Osiewalski 2006], who employ the Bayesian meth-odology to estimate stochastic cost frontier for the objects in question. Another, methodo-logical objective of the study is a comparison of the two approaches to cost efficiency analy-sis. The merits and demerits of both are examined, along with their similarities and differ-ences.
