Summary/Abstract: In the contemporary world economy the innovativeness and competiveness depend not only on traditional modes of technology transfer (e.g. foreign direct investment, license or arm-length agreements), but on knowledge absorption capabilities as well. More and more firms have already perceived the knowledge creation potential of Internet-based digital communities, therefore they are strongly interested in the implementation of "open innovation" concept in their business models. The purpose of the article is to analyze some innovation drivers in Poland in comparison to the selected developed and developing countries, to present the general determinants and features of "open innovation" conception, and finally to determine the most important incentives of open knowledge ecosystem creation process in Poland. The main conclusion is that the cornerstone of the open knowledge environment building process in Poland are both systemic changes in citizen-state relations and building of strong educational base for modern knowledge society
