The Structure of Transylvanian Carol

Summary/Abstract: The traditional carol, a musical genre that has very well stood the test of time, is still practiced in villages across Transylvania, and represents the documentary material (around 5000 carols) submitted to a structural analysis method, with the aim of identifying and assessing the musical language elements specific of this genre. By automating the analysis of musical discourse with the help of a computer application its interpretation will become possible in numerous research areas.
