Šiauliai Region Personalities’ Portrait Stone Mosaics Created by Algimantas Vitolis Trušys

Summary/Abstract: Algimantas Vitolis Trušys is an outstanding master of Lithuanian easel and monumental painting, laureate of the State Prize (1979), accomplished meritorious artist (1986), Šiauliai City Honorary Citizen (2007), pedagogue of fine art, author of a number of teaching aids, and former professor of Šiauliai University; his creative work almost has not been investigated in the scientific aspect; therefore, the level of investigation of his created stone mosaics, an important part of Lithuanian fine art heritage, is low. The present article singles out the Šiauliai region personalities’ portraits and an allegorical diptych “Tragedy” and “Comedy” out of the total context of V. Trušys’s created mosaics grounded on the factual graphic material. Referring to the thoughts, commentaries expressed by the author himself and art critics, stylistics, artistic features characteristic to V. Trušys’s creative pieces are explored.
