Summary/Abstract: During the last two decades of the twentieth century Mexico underwent a profound transformation of its economic system, culminated by the accession to NAFTA. The inclusion in the process of globalization created new opportunities for development, allowed the modernization of the economy, but during the global crisis it exposed the country to the economic downturn. The study analyzes mechanisms of recovery from the crisis and new threats, mainly related to the weakening of the state confronted with organized crime.
