Innovativeness in EU cohesion policy

Summary/Abstract: Innovation processes and their use are of paramount importance for the economic development. Innovation was one of the most important aspects of the Lisbon Agenda and remains a central element of the Europe 2020 strategy. Cohesion policy is the principal instrument for the implementation of these strategies. It has been supporting innovative solutions for years, and the commitment of cohesion policy to innovative activities has significantly increased since the 2007-2013 period. The purpose of this article is to examine the importance of cohesion policy for the development of innovation in the EU Member States. The analysis covered the evolution of the concept of innovation in cohesion policy and its various aspects and the presence of actions in support of innovation uder the cohesion policy in the Member States.
