Summary/Abstract: Succession planning is one of the processes which significantly influences the quality of personnel employed in the key positions in an organization, notably the senior executives. It is going to grow in importance within the next ten years. The aim of the present paper is to show the model solutions of succession planning and to confront them with research results of organizational practices in this area. Studies show that most companies, both with Polish and foreign capital, use more or less sophisticated succession planning solutions, but in many cases they are not effective and at times also dysfunctional. Instead of replacement planning and simple succession, organizations should implement an integrated management model in this area, which would help plan succession for all the key positions (expert and managerial), effectively supporting the business strategy of the organization.
