Summary/Abstract: This article focuses on the role of the government in the Polish decentralized education system. The main focus is placed on the challenges the policymakers at the national level face in reforming education. The author discusses, inter alia, the issue of competence disputes between the central and local governments, education legislation and evidence-based education policy making. She also looks at the school education statistics and governmental projects aimed at creating equal educational opportunities for Polish youth.
