Summary/Abstract: The purpose of the article is to present the results of research how managers respond to subordinates feedback and what the psychological foundations of those responses are. In the first part the author presents research in the context of relevant publications, including a discussion on different categories of reaction to feedback: improvement, defense, dominance, manipulation. The following sections present research methodology and empirical results that indicate a significantly higher occurrence of nonconstructive reaction to feedback than reaction aimed at improving performance. The author also points to the compelling relationships between how executives respond to feedback, and the type of feedback content formulated by subordinates. The last part of the article is devoted to a discussion of empirical data related to managers respond to feedback in terms of their contextual determinants.
