The role and importance of professional higher education in the development process of the region

Summary/Abstract: Higher education in Poland is one of the most dynamically developing areas in the life of society. For more than twenty years it has undergone meaningful quantitative and institutional transformations. The level of higher education, its quality and structure significantly affect the personal and professional lives of people and the whole society. The aim of the article is to present the role of the professional higher education in Poland called PWSZ founded from 1998 to 2009 in the development of the region. The article shows the analysis based on the statistical data which presents the didactic offer of PWSZ, the number of students and the amount of funding spent on the development of infrastructure for education and the scientific research. The article also presents the most important achievements of PWSZ, which have significantly influenced the development of regions.
