Summary/Abstract: Women disguised as men usually have access to open space providing them with freedom, which traditionally men take advantage of. Some of the women, though, reach the closed spaces such as grottos or cells of a recluse, which become not only their shelter but also the place of their spiritual improvement. In a secular sphere, though, the closed room becomes a trap for the disguised woman: although she was successful in the battlefield, in the queen’s bedroom she will not be able to fulfill the role of a lover and will be forced to resign from her ambiguous identity.
