Territorial aspect of regional development in the European Union vs. cohesion policy

Summary/Abstract: The main objective of this paper is to demonstrate the existing conflict between the main objective of the European cohesion policy, which is: striving to equalize the level of development of EU regions and territorial development paradigm that favours developed regions with high endogenous innovative potential. The second objective of this paper is to determine the importance of European cohesion policy consisting of economic, social and territorial cohesion, as an essential instrument to support the EU’s developing regions.
