Lublin Voivodeship – the border in intraregional policy vs. limits of the intraregional policy

Summary/Abstract: The purpose of this article is to point out the ineffectiveness of Lublin Voivodeship authorities’ policy on the negative impact of the eastern border on the province’s space. Elimination or reduction of the negative impact of the border is continuously included into the objectives of Lublin Voivodeship development policy documents. These documents involve a number of projects aimed to eliminate the border’s function as a barrier to development. However, the article points out that the key factors of the border’s negative impact are as follows: its location, subsequence, position in relation to centres of the settlement network, the level of formalisation, the number of cross-border points, the level of development of the areas located on its eastern side and the low economic potential of Lublin Region. Therefore a thesis has been proposed that only a change of at least one of these factors may change the nature of the border’s impact. Such a change, however, lies beyond the intraregional policy’s scope.
