Summary/Abstract: By developing and analyzing current threats, we can say that the main threats are the result of concentration of asymmetric character of military conflicts and modern technologies – representative being cruise and ballistic rockets. In this context, the NATO member’s tendency to develop new planning methodologies to destroy enemy’s high value objectives is more than justified – especially planning, which is considered a vital part of decision – making process and operational planning. The article approaches a clear segment of threats: the analysis of targeting process during military operations planning in order to support the commander with the knowledge of target selection, proper ways of engagement in the proper time during the conduct of operation. Likewise, we highlighted the fact that the targeting process is not an additional activity of the military staff. It is a significant part of the decision-making process the aim being to obtain effects that are specific, measurable and easy to identify. These effects support the desirable end of state and objectives established by the commander. The targeting process is a complementary process to operational planning which includes essential elements such as: planning, preparation, leading, conducting and assessment of the operation on strategic, operative and tactical level.
