Summary/Abstract: In recent years the processes of profound changes in national and foreign commercial banks have become more and more intensive. They brought, among others, changes in the level of economic activity and transformation of the credit cycles.The aim of this article is to analyze the most important directions of changes in modern commercial banks and their consequences for shaping the morphology of credit cycles in Poland in the years 1998-2013. The paper consists of two parts. The first one presents the main directions of transformation in the functioning of national and foreign commercial banks and their environment, as well as business activity-related consequences in the sphere of credit activities. The second part analyzes morphological features of the credit cycles.
