Summary/Abstract: One of the important aims realized by market economies in the sphere of macroeconomic stabilization is an increase of employment and reduction of unemployment. This intention is achieved by activities of macro or micro-economic character on the labour market. Macroeconomic employment policy applies the tools of fiscal or/and monetary policy. Microeconomic regulation of the labour market uses active or passive instruments which improve the functioning of this market. The aim of this paper is to examine the nature of impact exerted by fiscal and monetary instruments used within the frameworks of employment policy on the shaping of unemployment rate in Poland’s economy in the years 2000–2015. The article consists of two parts. In the first one instruments of fiscal and monetary policies used on the labour market in market economies are discussed. The second part presents analysis of empirical results which indicate that the role of macroeconomic employment policy in Poland is not unequivocal.
