Summary/Abstract: The paper aims to discuss the institution of exemption from court costs constituting a guarantee of access to the courts in civil cases in the Polish legal system. The Author also draws attention to the important role of the institution of exemption from court costs due to the provision of legal security to persons at risk of legal exclusion. The basis of for Author’s considerations is the Decision of the Court of Appeals in Szczecin of 7 February 2014 (ref. III APZ 2/14), based on which the Author presents the principles of admissibility of the exemption from court costs, the requirements for an application drawn up by the person applying for the exemption from the costs, as well as the principles for the assessment of the court in respect of the scope of a partial exemption from court costs.
