Parenting style and Attachment. Measurement tools

Summary/Abstract: Article presents two of the most commonly used models in modern research – of parenting styles by Diana Baumrind and attachment styles in adulthood by Bartholomew and Horowitz. It outlines the impact of parenting styles in the formation of attachment during childhood and the transfer of the attachment patterns in adulthood. The main purpose of the article is to present two new and never applied in Bulgarian conditions methods for measuring these styles. The first method is Parenting Style Inventory that aims to determine perceived styles of parenting. The second method is Experiences in Close Relationships – Relationships Structure Questionnaire designed to measure attachment styles formed in 4 different contexts of interaction. It is also presented a pilot research, which aim was to establish the psychometric properties of the instruments. The results show very good validity and reliability of both instruments, which gives them a great practical value.
