Summary/Abstract: Paper presents Construal Level Theory (CLT, Liberman & Trope, 1998; Trope & Liberman, 2003), which proposes that temporal perspective affects people’s thinking about future events. Smaller temporal distance effects in more frequent representations of events in terms of concrete details. The greater temporal distance events are represented at a more abstract and general level. There are presented empirical findings suggesting that TCT can also pertain to episodic memory. Further importance, theoretical and empirical implications of Construal Level Theory are discussed. The author also raises questions and challenges for future research.
