Summary/Abstract: While many firms have flexible work policies, they continue to reward face time and full-time work. In these cultures women who work at home or work reduced hours are perceived as less committed to their careers. Continuous, full-time employment and long hours are still used to judge employee commitment and performance. Facts already hint at the twofold significance of the move toward labour market flexibility for working women. On the one hand, new flexible forms of employment may contain a chance for them to enter the labour market. On the other hand without doubt many of these new jobs are precarious and contain new risks because they imply low wages as well as a low level of social protection or no protection at all.
