Summary/Abstract: The main objective of this article is to present how communication sciences (and studies) are at the moment transformed. A short analysis of the state-ofart of communication sciences lets us to reveal big changes which are brought by a new paradigm called the “media (singular “medium”) paradigm”. There are two more issues in this article: to present and explore the notion of “medium” and “media” in the Lithuanian language and to establish a relationship between the media and communication science. The main source of the transformation in communication sciences is German Geisteswissenschaften (Eng. humanities) and social sciences. German media studies are facing the problem of loss, because there is no answer under which label we should place the “media” studies. This article ends with a proposal to regard the media studies as communication sciences.
