Summary/Abstract: The more extensive application of the concepts and methods specific for ”e-learning” in education is favoured by the development of information and communication technology combined with the educational process centred on its beneficiaries. The present paper is part of a series of articles dedicated to the presentation of this topic of academic interest. This second article of the cycle aims to present the main requirements for e-learning systems in higher education, the standards and the operational structures of these systems. Finally, as an example, a functional sketch of an e-learning system implemented within „Dimitrie Cantemir” Christian University is briefly presented.
