Summary/Abstract: This article focuses on the sinuous course events that ultimately led to the adoption of the latest major reform document of the European Union, namely the Treaty of Lisbon. Hence, this research endeavour aims to follow the negotiations which enabled all member states to give their approval to new reform impetus, by analyzing the complicated ratification procedure undergone by the Lisbon Treaty. Furthermore, this study is meant to shed light on the similarities and differences between this reform document and the Constitutional Treaty, as well as to pinpoint the major institutional changes proivded by the former, in a comparative and analytical manner
